Apsara is one of our two nursing students in their second year of studies for a 3-year nursing degree course at the Nepal Institute of Health Science, Kathmandu.  Apsara works extremely hard both with her studies and when she's on the ward - keep up the great work Apsara, we are very proud of all your efforts.  When she finishes her training, Apsara will go back to her home village in Gorkha District to work as a qualified nurse.  Below are pictures of Apsara's typical day on the wards -

I am working with Nick Simmons Institute (NSI - and NGO that funds extra doctors in Government hospitals) in Taplejung district-  the most remote area of eastern Nepal, home to Mount Kanchanjungha,  the 3rd highest peak in the world. A pregnant woman’s journey

When staying in Lalit's village we were asked to see a pregnant woman who was unwell. She was 6 months pregnant, and appeared very unwell with abdominal pain and a fever. She was lucky to have lalit in the village that day; after examining her in her house in front of the elders, she was advised to urgently go to hospital as she hadn't felt her baby move for a week. The only way to hospital was by foot, and she was too ill to walk.
