Two Nurses and a Midwife to Join the Workforce at KAHS

Nurses Niruta Shahi (pictured) and Sita Sharma and midwife, Parbati Bhandari have aced their recent exam and application process, and have been offered staff jobs at Karnali Academy of Health Sciences (KAHS). The three young women graduated at the end of 2023, having received DFN scholarships for their study at KAHS. They will be based in Jumla, providing nursing and midwifery care to the surrounding remote communities in their home district. We wish them the best of luck in their new roles!

Supporter’s Green Fingers Make a Difference to DFN

A college friend of DFN trustee, Chris Yarrow, has been using his gardening skills to benefit the charity. Roger, 82, who lives near Vancouver, BC, is a keen gardener, and gives lessons to his gardening club members on pruning and tool-sharpening.  Each year he donates their subs to DFN, this year raising C$ 200.  Roger states: "It gives the idea, literally, that a fundraiser can be held in winter in a back garden and people thousands of miles away are happy to help out the Nepalese, another few thousand miles away to the east of the UK.  I tell ...

Dr. Prakash Aces Postgraduate Entrance Exam!

DFN doctor, Prakash, has passed the Common Entrance Exam for postgraduate study, ranking very highly among his peers. Having completed his bonded period in Doti, a very remote area in western Nepal, he has already helped thousands of patients. He will now go on to take his residency in another hospital, undertaking consultant-level training in his chosen specialism.

Dr. Santosh Passes His License Exam

Brilliant new doctor, Santosh Upadhayay, has passed his license exam! Passing the Medical Licensing Exam will allow him to practice as a professional physician once he completes his internship year at PAHS. Having almost completed his study thanks to his DFN scholarship, he will be going on to serve in the rural areas later in 2024. Congratulations Santosh!
