Our ScholarshipsÂ

Our Current Scholarship ProgrammeÂ
We sponsor qualified doctors to train to consultant level in collaboration with our partner institution, Karnali Academy of Health Sciences (KAHS), through our postgraduate training programme.
We also provide occasional medical, nursing and midwifery scholarships for students undertaking undergraduate study (MBBS, BNS, BMid) at KAHS.
We offer full, partial and collaborative scholarships. Scholarships can include academic fees and/or additional fees (including hostel fees, and study materials). Terms will be decided by the board of trustees based on individual student needs.
Could you be a DFN Scholar?
All of our scholars are from the most socio-economically deprived areas. 100% work in rural Nepal following their study, raising the standards of healthcare and medical education.
While all of our students sign a bond to work for at least two years in a remote area, we are looking for candidates who are passionate about improving medical care in rural Nepal and therefore plan to have a long-term career working in remote areas alongside the wider DFN family.
Due to their under-representation in the medical field, preference will be given to ‘lower’ castes and women.
You must meet the following eligibility criteria to be considered for a DFN scholarship.
Eligibility Criteria
- You must have studied at a public/government school
- You must show evidence of being economically marginalised – we will consider both financial and family background
- You must be a Nepali citizen from one of the following areas:Â Sudurpashchim: Accham, Bajhang, Bajura
Karnali:Humla, Jumla, Dolpa, Kalikot, Jajarkot, Mugu - You need to have basic English skills
- You must have the appropriate academic qualifications as required by KAHS and have passed the entrance exam to KAHS
- You must be willing to sign a tripartite agreement to work for two years (undergraduate) or three years (postgraduate) in a remote area following your study. Postgraduate scholars will be employed by KAHS following their study. Undergraduate students will need to gain government or private employment, such as with an NGO, in a mutually agreed rural setting.
