Welcome to first DFN midwives and to new DFN nurses
MIDWIVES
Doctors for Nepal has signed agreements with the Karnali Academy of Health Sciences (KAHS), to support the first ever midwifery degree-level course in Nepal. We will provide scholarships to the most needy and deserving, impoverished students from the Karnali region. We are extremely pleased to announce that we have successfully selected two Doctors for Nepal midwives, both of whom come from the Karnali region.
Parbati Bhandari is 24 and lives in Jumla with her parents who are both farmers. She has 1 younger and 1 older brother. She has already started her 1st year of midwifery studies and is extremely grateful to DFN for providing her with her scholarship.
Aarathi Budthapa is 20 and also comes from Jumla. She has 1 brother and lives with her father who is a security guard and her mother who is a housewife. Like Parbati, she is also very grateful for DFN’s financial support.
Without our support neither Parbati nor Aarathi would have been able to take up their places at KAHS to start the new midwifery course. Both students will graduate in 2022.
Rita Jirel is 24 and comes from Dolakha District. She has 1 younger brother and 2 elder sisters who live with their father who is a farmer and mother who is a housewife.
We have also been able to help another PHASE nurse who has fallen on hard times due to her father being unable to work through illness. Satya Ukheda is 18 and comes from one of the poorest casts in Nepal. the Dalit cast. She lives with her sick father and housewife mother, and 3 brothers, 1 older and 2 younger, in a small village in Kailali District. Doctors for Nepal is proud to be able to support you Satya in your time of need.
