DFN Scholars
We currently support four medical students, a nursing student and two health assistant students, who will go on to be fully qualified practitioners helping those in isolated communities in Nepal. We also continue to mentor our ten qualified doctors, twelve qualified nurses and one midwife.
But we need to do more than that, so that we can increase our training programme, offer financial support to our doctors for postgraduate training and help our medics run key health projects.
More money means more scholarships!
Most of our support comes from individuals, either through one-off donations or standing orders. Our scholars are selected through a rigorous process, taking into account:- family background and financial need
- willingness to serve in a remote area
- preference given to lower caste and female applicants.
Our Scholarships cover:
- tuition fees
- hostel fees
- books
- laptop
- one visit home each year (if appropriate)
The cost is about £35,000 per medical student for the five-year course, and £5,000 per nursing and midwifery student for a 3-year course. In return for their funding, scholars are contracted to work for two years in a remote area after graduating.
