FUNDRAISING SCREENING at DEPOT in LEWES
25th April 2018 @ 8:00 pm - 10:30 pm£9
We are excited to announce that DEPOT, the fabulous new independent cinema in Lewes, East Sussex, has offered to hold a fundraising screening our award-winning documentary NAMASTE, A HIMALAYAN JOURNEY, followed by Q&A and DRINKS on WEDNESDAY 25th April 2018, the 3rd anniversary of the devastating earthquake that hit Nepal.
Dr Kate Yarrow goes on a life-changing two-year adventure, following some of the incredible journeys patients have to endure to reach healthcare in remote areas of Nepal. Kate uncovers the additional challenges facing doctors and patients after the devastating earthquakes in 2015, and reveals the extraordinary personal journeys of the people she meets along the way. Six months after the earthquake, Kate returns to Nepal to see the devastation and how this has affected access to healthcare for people living in the most remote areas. Kate follows the treacherous 12-hour journey of a pregnant woman in need of urgent hospital treatment – it’s not uncommon for patients to walk for up to 9 days to reach basic healthcare. The pregnant lady is carried in a plastic chair tied to her husband’s back as he walks over the Himalayas to reach a basic hospital in Manma village. The earthquake has made these journeys even more treacherous – confrontations with landslides on the roads are an everyday occurrence. Kate visits a displacement camp in Kathmandu for those left homeless after the earthquake, and is moved to tears by what she sees in a village high up in the Himalayas.
