Introducing Our New Patron: Dame Joanna Lumley
We are absolutely delighted to announce that Dame Joanna Lumley has accepted the position of patron for Doctors For Nepal. Dame Joanna says:
“I am proud and happy to be the patron for this excellent charity, which punches far above its weight and encapsulates everything I believe in”.
She has a deep personal connection with Nepal, her father having served with the 6th Gurkha Rifles during the Second World War. Her name has long been synonymous with Nepal, particularly her involvement in the successful campaign to ensure that Gurkhas who fought for the UK gained the same rights as their British and Commonwealth counterparts.

Two Nurses and a Midwife to Join the Workforce at KAHS
Nurses Niruta Shahi (pictured) and Sita Sharma and midwife, Parbati Bhandari have aced their recent exam and application process, and have been offered staff jobs at Karnali Academy of Health Sciences (KAHS).
The three young women graduated at the end of 2023, having received DFN scholarships for their study at KAHS. They will be based in Jumla, providing nursing and midwifery care to the surrounding remote communities in their home district. We wish them the best of luck in their new roles!
