Nursing Students
DFN Nursing scholarships.
We currently have 9 nursing students, with our first 2 nursing students, Apsara Jirel and Binita Rai, having completed their studies and now working as qualified nurses for PHASE in Humla. Congratulations Apsara and Binita on becoming nurses - we are very proud of you.
Prabha Devkota is in her third year of study in Jumla, Yuna Shahi is in her fourth year of study at Patan Academy Nursing College in Kathmandu and Neelam Yadav is also at Patan Academy Nursing College in her second year of study. In October 2019 we welcomed 3 more nursing students - Sita, Niruta and Haridevi - into the DFN family. All are studying at KAHS (Karnali Academy of Health Science) Nursing College in Jumla. In December 2019 we welcomed 3 more PHASE student nurses into the DFN family - Sita, Sangita and Haridevi - all of whom are in their 1st year of study at KAHS. We also support Satya who is in her third year of study at KAHS.
We have collaborated with PHASE (Practical Help Achieving Self Empowerment) – an NGO that aims to empower isolated communities through health, education and livelihood opportunities, and with KAHS (Karnali Academy of Health Sciences). Our PHASE nursing students were auxiliary nurse midwives (lower level of health worker), and we are sponsoring their studies to become nurses. Our newest students at KAHS were all school students before entering nursing college. After completing their studies they will return to remote areas to practice for a minimum of 2 years.
