Nursing Students
DFN Nursing scholarships.
We currently have 6 nursing students, and 7 fully qualified nurses. Apsara Jirel and Binita Rai, completed their studies in 2020 and now work as qualified nurses for PHASE in Humla. Congratulations Apsara and Binita on becoming nurses - we are very proud of you.
Prabha Devkota, Yuna Shahi, Satya Ukhada and Samina Sunar all graduated in July 2021, despite all the problems posed by the pandemic, and will shortly be starting work as nurses in their rural areas. In 2018 we welcomed Neelam Yadav into the DFN family - she is currently in her final year of study in PAHS Nursing College in Kathmandu. In October 2019 we welcomed 3 more nursing students - Sita Sharma, Niruta Shahi and Haridevi Bhandari - into the DFN family. All are studying at KAHS (Karnali Academy of Health Science) Nursing College in Jumla. In December 2019 we welcomed 2 more PHASE (Practical Help Seeking Self-empowerment) student nurses into the DFN family - Sangita K.C. and Rital Jirel - who are also studying at KAHS in Jumla.
We have collaborated with PHASE – an NGO that aims to empower isolated communities through health, education and livelihood opportunities, and with KAHS (Karnali Academy of Health Sciences). Our PHASE nursing students were auxiliary nurse midwives (lower level of health worker), and we are sponsoring their studies to become nurses. Our newest students at KAHS were all school students before entering nursing college. After completing their studies they will return to remote areas to practice for a minimum of 2 years.
