Two More Young Women Supported by DFN to Begin Their Nursing Journey

We're pleased to report exciting developments for our brand new joint study and employment scholarship. This involves us working with Oda Foundation, Kalikot, to collaboratively identify individuals from marginalized groups in the Karnali region, and give them the opportunity to apply for scholarships that include funding for their nursing, midwifery or public health education, as well as a two-year employment contract at Oda Foundation's clinic. The first two aspiring nurses have been selected for the scholarship, Sunmaya B.K and Gauri B.K (pictured middle and right). Dr. Meena Performs High-Risk Delivery, Successfully Delivers Twins

This Easter weekend we were reminded of the the hard work continuing in Nepal as many of us in the UK were enjoying our bank holiday. DFN Dr. Meena, was on-call this week in remote Mugu, when she was presented with an eighteen year old woman, at term with a twin pregnancy. The woman had pre-eclampsia and was in a dangerous situation. Because she had access to Meena and the rural hospital she works in, she was able to be treated and monitored. Her blood pressure gradually lowered with the help of IV medication as she advanced in her labour. The beautiful twins were born weighing 2200gm and 1800gm and mother and babies are now safe and ...

Joanna Lumley Gets Involved with DFN!

Legendary actress, presenter and humanitarian activist, Joanna Lumley has shown her support for DFN by donating her time and recording the amazing voiceover for our brand-new short film! We were thrilled to have Joanna on board for this project, given her deep connections with Nepal. Satya recently told us of an outdoor delivery that she attended in the middle of the night. The mother was far away from her village and went into labour at midnight. Satya and her colleague reached her at 1am, delivered the baby safely and returned her to the health post by stretcher, where she and her new child could receive complete care. Power Through Partnership: Our Collaboration With Oda Foundation

One of the key issues that has been raised through our work in the last year has been the difficulties surrounding employment of nurses and midwives. Following the successful qualification of the nurses we support, their next challenge is to find employment in rural hospitals or health posts where the communities are desperate for their help. Unfortunately, with a lack of government posts available in these underfunded areas, this is not always a straightforward task for them. We want to change this and ensure that the most remote communities receive the nursing support they need, so we have partnered with the incredible organization Oda Foundat...
